New Zealand could be without some of their senior players, including captain Kane Williamson, but all-rounder Daryl Mitchell believes the tour India Helping the Black Caps to try out new formations and different balances.

Apart from Williamson, New Zealand are missing the services of pacers Trent Boult and Tim Southee while coach Gary Stead has also missed the limited-overs series.

“With Kane not being here I think it is a great opportunity for the group to try out some new formations and different balances and give some guys the experience of playing in India.

“I think it’s a good opportunity for us to keep building on where we want to be as a group,” Mitchell said on the eve of the third ODI here.

New Zealand are trailing 0-2 in the three-match series.

The top-order has struggled a lot to contribute runs. In the opener, the Kiwis were looking down and out at 131-6, before number seven Michael Bracewell played a blunder to almost take them over the line.

However, Bracewell could not repeat the feat as the visitors were bowled out for just 108 in the second match at Raipur. But Mitchell is not thinking too much about last Saturday’s performance.

“Everyone knows cricket games like the second day (second ODI), it is the nature of the game, you lose the toss and get out on a slightly challenging surface.

“As a group, we’re very eclectic. We don’t ride the highs or the lows too much. Just be consistent. So, really excited about tomorrow.”

with ODI World With the cup to be played in India later this year, New Zealand would be keen to get at least one win to boost their morale.

“For us, it’s about adapting to the conditions here, communicating as a group, especially the early partnerships, what the surface is doing and how we want to go about it,” Mitchell said.
