IND vs NZ: It’s great to come out with a draw like this, says Kyle Jamieson on Kanpur Test

New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson said on Thursday it was “very nice” for the tourists to finish the first Test India With an exciting draw in Kanpur.

He said that he is hopeful that the rain will not spoil before the second Test at the Wankhede Stadium from Friday. The two-match series is now locked at 0-0 with both India and New Zealand having a chance to win the series.

“It was a great Test. We had a lot of nail-biters for the final wicket at the end of daylight. It’s great to come out with a draw like this. In Test cricket, we’re within three or four days. We see a lot of wins, but it was great to go down to the end of the fifth day and have an exciting draw at the end,” Jamieson said in a New Zealand video interview. Cricket (NZC).

Jamieson also reflected on his experience playing his first Test in Indian conditions. “I had not played anything in this part of the world, especially red-ball cricket. So I am trying to learn how my game will be in these conditions. I think that’s the beauty of Test cricket, it challenges you to play around the world with yourself. I have had limited experience abroad and I certainly expect such challenges during my career. Those are the things that drive you and strive to be better and take on these challenges and learn from them.”

The 26-year-old, who became the fastest New Zealand fast bowler to reach fifty Test wickets, was aware of the rainy weather possibly leading up to the second Test. “It is a very nice stadium and obviously an iconic venue in India. It’s great to be here, to be here for the second Test with all three possible outcomes. It has rained a bit here, which is the first time I have seen in three months. Actually, there was a good turnaround but hopefully the weather will be away for the next five days and can work hard for a Test series win.”

New Zealand will go into the second Test without any outdoor or indoor practice. Jamieson doesn’t think the lack of practice will be a concern for the team. “I think it’s definitely different. But not a huge amount. People have been away from home for quite some time. It’s good to be physically and mentally refreshed for the next few days as well. While it would have been nice to have a little bowl, I think it’s not huge given the amount of cricket we have.”

Jamieson signed on, praising his senior pace-mate Tim Southee, who scored 5/69 and 3/75 in both innings at Kanpur, despite his waist being right. “It’s amazing. Bowling in a two-pronged attack with Tim was pretty special in overseas conditions, something we don’t do at home. It was very special to see him work despite his troubles and through the workload he has put in. Going about my business was something that I sat back and admired. Whenever I get a chance to play with these guys it’s definitely a pinch for me that I love to be a part of.”
