New Zealand’s Ajaz Patel took ten wickets in an innings and became the third cricketer in the history of the game to achieve the feat. His last scalp was Mohammad Siraj whom he caught during the second Test in Mumbai to end the Indian innings for 325 runs. Born in the same city, Patel came back to this place to achieve the biggest achievement of his life. It is as if his life has come a complete circle.

His scintillating exploit began when he beautifully dismissed opener Shubman Gill on the first day. He had beaten him first and then on the very next ball was his man. He then started a mini collapse by removing the likes of Pujara and Kohli, reduced India up to 80/3. For the former, he bowled though Mayank Agarwal kept attacking him but he never gave up. By the time the stumps were called at the Wankhede, he managed to complete a boundary off Shreyas Iyer. In the midst of all this, his companions seemed ordinary. A senior player like Tim Southee also failed to take the wicket, although he did swing the ball. At the same time, the wicket of his close friend Will Somerville was also short.

The very next day, he struck again, removing Wriddhiman Saha and Ravichandran Ashwin in rapid succession. Till then no one thought that he would get ten wickets. It was only after Centurion managed to dismiss Mayank Agarwal that people started talking about this huge potential to create history. The next three wickets fell into a pile as he finished figures of 10–119, becoming only the third cricketer on the planet to take all ten wickets in an innings.
