IND vs NZ 2023: No Kane Williamson as Mitchell Santner to Lead New Zealand in T20I Series Against India

Santner’s team will have an experienced set of T20 cricketers, including nine players from last year’s T20 World Cup squad.

Experienced all-rounder will captain New Zealand team for three match T20 series against Mitchell Santner India This month, left-arm swing bowler Ben Lister earned his maiden call-up to the squad, announced on Thursday.

New Zealand will play the first T20I in Ranchi on January 27 after the conclusion of the three-match ODI series starting in Hyderabad on January 18.

He made his New Zealand A debut in India late last year after Lister was included in the squad.

The 27-year-old’s India tour was cut short after he was diagnosed with pneumonia in Bangalore. The infection saw him spend time in hospital before returning home to recover.

“As a left-handed batsman, his ability to swing the ball a lot is particularly exciting.

“We all felt for Ben when his tour ended like last year, and it is a testament to his work ethic that he has been able to come back to domestic cricket so strongly this season.” Larsen said Santner had impressed in his previous chances as captain of the T20 team. “Mitch is a leader in our white-ball teams and has previously captained the T20 side in India. His experience in Indian conditions will be invaluable leading this group.” Luke Ronchi will be the head coach of the team while Bob Carter (batting), Paul Wiseman (bowling) and Trevor Penney (fourth coach) will be his assistants.
