New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham reacted on Twitter after his team lost their fourth consecutive toss on the tour of India. After losing the toss on all three occasions in the T20I series, the streak continued for New Zealand in the Test match as well. Kane Williamson, who had missed the T20I series, returned to the squad for the opening Test, but the coin’s fortunes did not change for New Zealand. Earlier, Tim Southee had lost the toss to Rohit Sharma in the first two T20 Internationals and Mitchell Santner in the last.
Neesham, who is not part of the Test team, took to Twitter and wrote: “Can someone please take a closer look at those coins? #INDvNZ.”

Meanwhile, the former India Opener Wasim Jaffer shared his excitement over the return of Test cricket in India.

India’s stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to bat against New Zealand in the first match of the two-Test series being played at the Green Park Stadium on Thursday. Both India and New Zealand have batsman Shreyas Iyer and left-arm spin all-rounder Rachin Ravindra respectively.
Having won the toss, Rahane said that he expects the pitch to play well initially and then bring the spinners into the equation. “The pitch is looking really good. Usually it slows down here. Shreyas is making his debut. We are all excited to play under the new coaching staff. I personally enjoy playing under Rahul bhai. New Zealand is a quality side. (We are going together) 3 spinners, 2 seamers.”

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said that if he had won the toss, he too would have decided to bat first.
“We used to bat earlier as well. But we took the ball first, so it is important that we get some early wickets. Looking forward to this challenge. It’s mixed (elbow injury), but that’s okay. Ejaz Patel and Will Somerville have done well in the past. We are making our debut in Rachin Ravindra with two spinners, two fast bowlers and one spinning all-rounder.
