Suryakumar Yadav made a big jump after his 47-run innings in Ranchi encounter

India may have lost the first T20I to New Zealand by 21 runs in Ranchi, but there were several individual performances that earned praise from fans and experts. In a tight chase of 177, the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Washington Sundar put up a remarkable batting display but unfortunately, could not guide the hosts to victory. The former player played a quickfire 47 off 35 balls in the shortest format of the game. On the other hand, the Tamil Nadu all-rounder brought up his maiden T20 half-century off just 25 balls.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav made a big leap after his 47-run knock in the Ranchi encounter. World No. 1 T20I batsman goes east India All-rounder Suresh Raina and legendary former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni have become the fifth-highest run-getters for India in T20Is.

The Mumbai batsman currently has 1625 runs scored in 44 innings at a strike rate of 178.76. Surya also has three centuries and 13 half-centuries to his credit. Dhoni and Raina ended their respective T20I careers with 1617 and 1605 runs respectively.

Former captain among Indian batsmen Virat Kohli Leads the charts with 4008 runs. Rohit Sharma is on the second spot with 3853 runs while KL Rahul (2265 runs) and Shikhar Dhawan (1759 runs) are on the third and fourth spot respectively.

India skipper Hardik Pandya admitted that he gave away 25 runs more than the par score on a spin-friendly pitch after their 21-run loss in the first match of the T20 International series at the JSCA International Stadium on Friday.

“No one thought this wicket would play like this, both the teams were surprised but New Zealand played better cricket. The new ball was taking more turn than the old ball. The way it turned and bounced, it surprised us but as long as me and Surya were batting, we thought we would pull it off,” Hardik said at the post-match presentation.

Though Hardik and Suryakumar Yadav shared a 68-ball 51-run partnership for the fourth wicket, followed by Washington Sundar taking 2/22 with the ball to complete his maiden T20I half-century, it could not make up for the top-Power Three batsmen fell in the play and eventually, India fell 21 runs short, giving New Zealand a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
