Rishabh Pant has created history in the Test between India and England being played at Edgbaston. He scored a century in 89 balls and brought Team India out of difficult situations. At one point India had lost five wickets for 98 runs. After this, Pant shared a 222-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja.

Pant also broke the 17-year-old record of former India wicket-keeper batsman and captain MS Dhoni for the fastest century in Tests. Dhoni scored a century in 93 balls against Pakistan in 2005. Pant broke this record by scoring a century in 89 balls. Pant also became the third Indian batsman to score a century at Edgbaston. Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli had done this. Pant is at number three among Indian batsmen to score the fastest century in Tests outside Asia. Virender Sehwag scored a century in 78 balls in the Gros Islet Test against West Indies in 2006. The 222-run partnership between Jadeja and Pant is the highest partnership for Team India in England for the fifth or below wicket. Earlier this record was in the name of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. The two shared a 204-run partnership for the sixth wicket at the Kennington Oval in 2018.
