With the 5th Test between India and England turning out to be a one sided affair for the hosts on Day 2 at the HCPA Stadium in Dharamsala, skipper Rohit Sharma has gone to score his 48th century for the country which lined up a number of records to his name. England skipper Ben Stokes dismissed the Hitman on 103 before his swashbuckling innings saw Team India take control on Day 2 as well.

He not only smashed overall records but also breached many barriers in the Indian national team as well. Scoring 103 off just 162 balls, Rohit hit 13 boundaries and 3 sixes in his innings which saw India increase their lead in some fashion.

Rohit Sharma has equaled the record set by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar for the most centuries by an Indian opener against England in Test matches. With his fourth Test century as an opener against England, Rohit Sharma matched Gavaskarā€™s achievement. Additionally, Rohit Sharma stands alongside another Indian opening batsman as one of only two to have scored over 1000 runs against England in Test cricket.

Moreover, Rohit Sharma joins another Indian opening batsman as one of only two to have scored over 1000 runs against England in Test cricket.

Most International Tons As An Opener

Rohit Sharma has surpassed West Indies legend Chris Gayle in terms of most international hundreds as an opener with 43 tons to his name. The Indian skipper is now third on the list with Sachin and David Warner on the top 2 positions respectively.

As if breaking the international records wasnā€™t enough, the Hitman is well on his way to break Team India records as well. Rohit has now become the batter with most Test hundreds in the team since 2021, scoring 6 of them over the years. Next on the list is another player who shone in Dharamsala, Shubman Gill with 4 tons to his name.

Rohit Sharma has also reached the same tally of international centuries as the legendary batsman and Indiaā€™s current head coach, Rahul Dravid. With 48 international centuries for India, Rohit Sharma now stands behind only Sachin Tendulkar and his teammate Virat Kohli in this remarkable achievement.
