The fourth day of the rescheduled Test between India And England saw several reports of racial abuse by fans at the Edgbaston stand. In response to social media posts, England and Wales Cricket The Board (ECB) issued an official statement promising to investigate the matter at the earliest.

“We are deeply concerned to hear the news of racist abuse in today’s Test match. We are in contact with Edgbaston associates who will investigate. There is no place for racism in cricket. Edgbaston is working hard to create a safe and inclusive working environment, the ECB said in a statement.

The ECB had to tweet it after several fans took to the micro-blogging site and complained about the abuse. Most said that they reported the matter to the steward at the stand but no action was taken.
