IND vs ENG 2022: How was India’s performance in Tests at Edgbaston?

Edgbaston has not been a happy ground for the Indian Test team. The tourists have played seven Test matches in Birmingham so far but they have not tasted victory even once. They achieved only one draw which happened in 1986. In the remaining six Test matches, India Ended up on the losing side.

England vs India, 1967

The Indian team first traveled to Birmingham in July 1967. In their first match at Edgbaston, the Indian team, led by Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, was bundled out for just 92 runs in the first innings. In the end, the visiting team suffered a crushing defeat by 132 runs.

England vs India, 1974

In their second match in 1974, Team India conceded defeat by an innings and 78 runs.

England v India, 1979

Five years later, India, led by Srinivasa Venkataraghavan, returned to the venue. However, there was no change in the result. The hosts posted a massive total of 633/5 (declared) in the first innings. India eventually lost by an innings and 83 runs.

England vs India, 1986

Team India’s only draw at Birmingham Cam in 1986. Kapil Dev’s men were able to pull off a crucial draw in that game. England opted to bat and scored 390 runs thanks to captain Mike Gatting’s unbeaten 183. India were bundled out for 390 before being bundled out for 236 for victory. In their fourth innings, the Kapil Dev-led side posted a score of 174/5 before ending in a draw.

India played the next Test here in 2018. then Indian captain Virat Kohli Scored a brilliant century in the first innings. Kohli scored 149 as India reached a total of 274. He played another memorable innings by scoring 51 runs in the second innings. However, his sensational batting eventually proved to be insufficient as India lost by 31 runs.
