IND vs BAN: Taskin Ahmed Ruled Out of ODI Series Opener Due to Recurring Back Pain – Report

Bangladesh have suffered a major blow ahead of the upcoming three-match ODI series against India as fast bowler Taskin Ahmed has been ruled out of the first match on Sunday due to back pain.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, fast bowler Shorful Islam has been called up in the ODI squad as Taskin’s backup. Taskin, who has taken 22 wickets in 19 ODIs since Bangladesh’s inception last year, was widely expected to lead the hosts’ pace attack in the series against Bangladesh. Taskin has been ruled out of the first match of the ODIs as his back pain recurred. “We will watch his progress before taking further decisions regarding his participation,” BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin said in the report on Thursday.

Besides Taskin, Bangladesh’s regular captain Tamim Iqbal has more fitness concerns after suffering a groin injury in the warm-up match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on November 30.

“We are waiting for Tamim’s scan report. He had a groin injury and the doctor has asked for a scan to decide on his availability.”

The first two ODIs between Bangladesh and India will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National on December 4 and 7. Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur, Dhaka. The third ODI, which was earlier scheduled to be held in Dhaka, will now take place on December 10 at the Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Chattogram.

Currently, India is fourth in the men’s ODI team rankings while Bangladesh is seventh. All ODI matches, which are not part of the ODI World Cup Super League, will be day-night matches from 12 noon local time.

The tour will also feature two Tests as part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle, from December 14 to 18 at the Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Chattogram and then at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS), Mirpur. Dhaka from 22-26 December.

India will leave for Bangladesh on 1 December and leave the country on 27 December after the tour is over.
