IND vs BAN: People Need to Understand When We Give Players Break It’s Only to Manage Workload – Rohit Sharma

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma believes that the team management will keep on giving breaks to the cricketers to reduce the workload as there will be a hectic schedule in the coming days. After failing to win 2022 T20 World Cup, the Men in Blue have set their sights on the upcoming ODI World Cup to be held in India next year.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup this year, several players were rested on several occasions, which brought the selectors and team management under the scanner.

With this Bangladesh series some players like wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will be on the road for more than two-and-a-half months and the skipper stressed on the need for workload management.

Rohit said that people have to keep in mind the busy schedule as the team management has to manage the workload of the players.

“As professionals, we have to maintain the intensity. Yes, there is a lot of cricket and hence we give them breaks. And people need to understand that when we rest players, it is only keeping the bigger picture in mind. Keeping is meant to manage the workload.”

“Cricket is not going to stop. There will always be plenty of cricket and we need to manage our players. You want your best players to play at high intensity all the time. So it is important to give him breaks, manage him because freshness is very important,” Rohit elaborated.

He then gave a glimpse of his team’s tough schedule during the past few months.

“A lot of people were on the road ahead of the World Cup and we had two back-to-back series against Australia and South Africa. And then, we went straight to Australia. It’s been two and a half months. It is impossible in this day and age that you will always play with your best 15. It’s not going to happen,” he was clear.

Talking about whether the ODI series against Bangladesh will give a boost to India’s preparations for the ODI World Cup, Rohit suggested that the tournament is too far away.

“Every time you play a game, it is preparation for something. There are still 8-9 months (10 months) left in the World Cup. We cannot think that far ahead. We have to keep an eye on what we have to do as a team.”

He added that it wouldn’t help if he started planning too early, but also made it clear that Team Think-Tank knows the direction it needs to travel.

“It’s very, very important that we don’t start thinking about so many things. Like we have to play this guy or that guy. Me and the coach (Dravid) know what to do. The closer the World Cup We’ll bring it down once we arrive.”
