IND v NZ: ‘He Deserves A Consistent Run of At Least Ten Games’-Prolific Opener Lends Support to Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson keeps cropping up every time India Plays a white ball. The 27-year-old Kerala cricketer has been in and out of the playing XI and was dropped again for the second and third ODIs against New Zealand even as the team preferred Rishabh Pant in the playing eleven. Meanwhile, his fans went on a rampage on social media accusing the BCCI of casteism and what not.

Here, it is to be noted that Samson led Rajasthan Royals to the final in IPL 2022 and was subsequently dropped despite being selected for the tour of Ireland and England. He said, ‘Yes, I feel for Samson, because he is in such good form and he is not getting runs consistently. I think he deserves it. Even in T20 cricket or ODI cricket, let’s say he should have a consistent run of ten matches.

“When you have a huge talent pool and lots of options, it can spell trouble for you. The management should pick 18-20 players that this is our core team and focus on them. .

While addressing the presser after the match, the hot topic was raised again and Dhawan made it clear that Pant is the match winner while Sanju will have to wait for his chance.

“Overall, you have to look at the bigger picture and who is your match winner. You analyze and your decisions are based on that.

Pant’s scores in his last nine innings in the two white-ball formats read 10, 15, 11, 6, 6, 3, 9, 9 and 27.

Dhawan said it is ‘not difficult’ to be in the captain’s shoes when making tricky choices like choosing Pant over Samson.

“Definitely, whatever opportunity Sanju Samson has got, he is doing really well. But sometimes you have to wait for your chance because the other player has done well and we know based on his (Pant’s) skill that he is a match-winner. So when he is not doing well then you should support him.
