Officials said the Income Tax Department on Tuesday carried out a survey operation at the Delhi and Mumbai offices of the BBC as part of its probe into tax evasion. The surprising action comes weeks after the broadcaster aired a two-part documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots and India, which was banned by the government, PTI reported.

He said the department is looking into the business operations of the company and documents related to its Indian unit.
