In these 5 states and union territories 100% of the adult population has received the first dose of the COVID vaccine

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry on Sunday informed that all adult people in 5 states and union territories have received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine as the cumulative jabs administered in the country crossed the 74 crore mark.

According to the data of CoWIN portal, around 50,25,159 vaccine doses have been given till 8 pm on Sunday.

All adults in Sikkim, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Ladakh and Lakshadweep have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya’s office “Congratulations to these states and union territories for delivering the first COVID-19 vaccine dose to 100 per cent of the adult population. Special appreciation to the health workers in these regions for their diligence and commitment,” tweeted .

The chart shared in the tweet showed that Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (6.26 lakh doses), Goa (11.83 lakh doses), Himachal Pradesh (55.74 lakh doses), Ladakh (1.97 lakh doses), Lakshadweep (53,499 doses) doses), and Sikkim (5.10 lakh doses) are the states and union territories with 100 percent eligible population, which have been given the first dose of the COVID vaccine.

The COVID vaccination campaign in India was launched on January 16, with priority being given to healthcare workers in the first phase, followed by immunization of frontline workers starting February 2.

The next phase of the coronavirus vaccination campaign, which began on March 1, included people aged 60 years and above and those aged 45 years and above with specific co-morbid conditions.

Vaccination for all people over the age of 45 began on 1 April. The central government then decided to expand the vaccination campaign by allowing everyone above the age of 18 to be vaccinated from May 1.

Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry informed earlier today that more than 72.21 crore (72,21,17,085) vaccine doses have been provided to the States/UTs so far through the Government of India and through the Direct State Procurement category. In addition, more than 57 lakh doses (57,56,240) are in the pipeline.

It was informed that more than 5.16 cores (5,16,66,835) of the remaining and unutilized COVID vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs.
