Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal received a hearty welcome at Shiv Shambhu Society in Borivali on Monday, while he was campaigning for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Mumbai North constituency. Women voters from the area welcomed him with flowers and performed his aarti, along with fireworks and music band. This was Goyal’s 18th engagement of the day. Following this, he will head to Swaminarayan temple, his last visit for the day and then he will head to Delhi for a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Addressing voters in the constituency, the Union minister urged them to elect Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a third term. He said that PM Modi’s third term will be focussed on empowering women, providing a better life for children and improving infrastructure.

“This is Modiji’s magic. The whole country stands with Prime Minister Modi, the people of North Mumbai are going to give a sweeping victory to show that the country stands with PM Modi,” said Goyal.

Goyal marks his debut in Lok Sabha elections as he contests from Mumbai North, which is believed to be a safe seat for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Confident of his victory, the Union minister said, “The people of North Mumbai are sending their blessings and wishes to PM Modi to make India a developed nation by 2047.”

Among the 19 locations he visited, he had a meeting with businessmen, self-help groups, interaction with BJP karyakartas and visits to various temples – Swaminarayan, Haveli and Shiv mandir.

Throughout his visits, Goyal received a warm welcome at all the locations.

“Piyush Goyal would often visit Borivali as Railway minister and he has done a good job for Railways. Infact, Gopal Shetty has worked hard and delivered in our area. We would expect the same from Goyal as well,” said Shiva Shetty, a resident of Borivali.

“It’s not about a name or face, the work speaks. So, far all our representatives have worked and delivered. We are hoping the same from Piyush Goyal,” said a female voter from the area.

Goyal’s constituency would include six Vidhan Sabha seats, which is Borivali, Dahisar, Magathane, Kandivali – East, Charkop and Malad-West.

Goyal had a three-term tenure in Rajya Sabha. Shetty had defeated actor Urmila Matondkar by over 4 lakh votes in the previous elections from the constituency.

The constituency is dominated by Gujarati and North Indian voters, which makes this constituency a sure-shot BJP win seat.

Actor Govinda was also earlier MP from this seat. He is likely to campaign for Goyal in the coming days.
