In Goa For SCO Meet, Chinese FM Puts Emphasis On Peaceful Coexistence With India

Beijing: Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang, who is currently in Goa to attend the SCO Foreign Ministers’ meeting, said on Thursday that India and China should find a way for peaceful and friendly coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation. Qin, who held a bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) foreign ministers’ meeting in Goa, also met relatives of Dr Dwarkanath Kotnis, an Indian doctor who served in China during his stay in China. Qin said the two countries should commit to promoting mutually beneficial cooperation, enhance mutual trust and cooperation, and jointly safeguard the common interests of developing countries and international fairness and justice. He met relatives of Dr. Kotnis, representatives of India-China friendship organizations and Chinese and Indian youth in Goa. He also visited the photo exhibition of the life of Dr. Kotnis along with his relatives.

Qin said that Dr. Kotnis was a great friend of the Chinese people and an outstanding fighter in the anti-fascist war. The minister said that he devoted his precious youth and life to the Chinese people’s war of resistance against Japan. He said that Dr. Kotnis’ spirit is a humanitarian spirit of rescuing the dead and healing the wounded, a heroic spirit of struggle and sacrifice, and more importantly an internationalism advocating peace and friendship and a shared future. A bronze statue of Kotnis, known in China as Ke Dihua, was unveiled in September 2020 at the Medical School in Shijiazhuang. In addition to the Dihua Medical Science Secondary Specialized School in Shijiazhuang named after him, both have monuments to Kotnis.
