Hyderabad: Continuing with its special drive for immunization of 18-44 years age group, Telangana has given more than 1.17 lakh doses for this beneficiary group. A total of 1,68,143 doses were administered on Saturday, of which 1,41,507 were vaccinated for the first dose and 26,636 for the second dose. According to the Director of Public Health Dr G Srinivasa Rao, 1,17,254 people in the age group of 18-44 were vaccinated. Of them, 5,985 received a second dose.

The Department of Health began immunizations for 18-44s on July 1. The state started vaccination at 100 designated centers in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits with prior online booking using the Co-Win portal. It was also launched at 204 centers of ULBs and 636 Rural Primary Health Centers in walk-in mode with prior online booking using the Co-Win portal.

While the government allowed private hospitals to administer COVID vaccines to age groups 18 and above in the last week of May, this is the first time that government-run immunization centers specifically cater to this group. The total number of doses given to all the groups in the state so far has reached 1,12,38,112 – 96,34,187 first dose and 16,03,945 second dose.

People in the age group of 18-44 were given 40.82 lakh doses. Most people in this age group were already covered under vaccination for high-risk groups and superspreaders during the last month.
