In a first, BCCI formed committee for disabled cricketers

The BCCI has constituted a committee for the disabled cricketers of the country, paving the way for them to play under the aegis of the board.

In April this year, the BCCI Apex Council had decided to recognize the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI) as the sole body to promote cricket among physically challenged, deaf, blind and wheelchair participants.

Now, the board has gone a step further, providing yet another big boost to the disabled cricketers.

“Yes, we have formally formed a committee that will look after cricket for the physically challenged. Now it is a sub-committee of BCCI. So the Indian disability team will now play under the aegis of BCCI.”

The move was also appreciated by the Indian women’s ODI and Test team captain Mithali Raj and DCCI.

“We, DCCI, @JayShah @SGanguly99 @ThakurArunS and all respected state and affiliated units of BCCI are grateful for the formation of Differently Abled Cricket Committee. This is the first time @BCCI has recognized disabled cricketers and taken us in their wings,” DCCI tweeted.

Appreciating the BCCI’s move, Mithali wrote in her post, “Congratulations @BCCI for such an inspiring and historic decision.”

This move will surely give a big boost to DCCI and its players going forward.
