  • Khan said he was waiting for the Supreme Court’s decision on his party’s plea to provide security to his supporters.
  • He had recently organized ‘Azadi March’ with his supporters, which created a lot of panic in Islamabad.
  • Imran Khan also said that he will release the date for next March, demanding general elections

Imran Khan has warned of civil war if Pakistan does not announce fresh elections. The deposed prime minister said he was waiting for the Supreme Court’s decision on his party’s plea to provide security to the protesters.

According to the Dawn newspaper report, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman also said that he will issue the date for next March demanding general elections.

Imran Khan warned, “We will see if they allow us to go towards elections by legal and constitutional means otherwise this country will go to (a) civil war.”

Khan further said that there was “no question” of returning to the National Assembly as it would mean “accepting the conspiracy” that toppled his government.

Why is Imran Khan protesting?

Khan was removed from office in April via a motion of no confidence, but he refused to accept the result, alleging that the US was involved in toppling his government.

The PTI president has since been protesting and calling for fresh elections because, in his words, the current coalition government led by Shahbaz Sharif of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party was “imported”, not an True representative Pakistani people.

Khan led thousands of his PTI supporters in Islamabad in a protest last Wednesday and had planned to stage a sit-in till fresh elections were announced, but abruptly called off the strike at the last minute after reaching the capital.

However, he had threatened to return after six days if the government failed to give a date for the mid-term elections in the country.
