Imran Khan announced a special cell in Pakistan to resolve matters related to Afghanistan.
On Friday, Prime Minister Imran Khan announced the formation of a special body in Pakistan to address Afghanistan-related matters.
Dawn quoted a statement as saying, “The Prime Minister of Pakistan “referred to the synergy of various streams of efforts on Afghanistan across the Government, including international coordination for humanitarian assistance and effective border management to prevent any negative spillover into Pakistan”. Directed the setting up of a dedicated cell for Mines Office.
Khan took the decision after holding discussions with the National Security Committee (NSC) to discuss several security issues in view of the current situation in Afghanistan.
According to the Dawn report, the NSC is Pakistan’s highest forum for coordination on security matters and consists of key federal ministers, national security advisers, service chiefs and intelligence officials.
A few days ago, Pakistan’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Moeed Yusuf had also met Deputy Foreign Minister Wendy Sherman and told him that the world should engage with the newly formed Taliban government in Afghanistan.
Ever since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, Islamabad has been urging the world to recognize an interim government in the troubled country. Barring a handful of countries like China and Pakistan, no other country is inclined to recognize this organization and is adopting a wait and watch policy.
