Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday urged the people of his country to “protect sovereignty and self-respect” while sticking to the charge of his “foreign conspiracy” over the opposition’s attempts to oust him from power.

“There was an attempt to change the power from outside, they decided from outside that we don’t like them, so change them… the society has to protect… it’s not about Imran Khan. If the society does won’t defend its sovereignty, so who will?” Imran Khan said in an interview to PTV.

During the interview, Imran Khan drew upon several references from the life of Prophet Mohammed and the Quran, as well as the need to inculcate values in the younger generation.

Referring to the opposition, he said that “corrupt” politicians have destroyed the distinction between “good” and “bad” in Pakistan.

“Our problem is that these corrupt people, by ruling this country over and over again, with the whole set-up with them, with the connivance of the whole mafia, even the media people… If you want to destroy a society, destroy the difference between good and bad,” Imran Khan said.

Referring to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Shahbaz Sharif, Khan said Pakistan has leaders who say that beggars are not pickers.

Khan said, “We are poor, so we are slaves… Does that mean we will always be slaves? They say America has put us on life support machines… when you have leaders like these , then they destroy the potential of society.” Further attacking Shahbaz Sharif said.

The Imran Khan government suffered a setback on Thursday when the Supreme Court of Pakistan overruled the deputy speaker’s decision rejecting a no-confidence motion moved by the opposition.

The court set aside the dissolution of the Pakistan National Assembly and all subsequent decisions. It directed the holding of a meeting of the National Assembly “not later than 10:30 a.m. on 9 April” for a no-confidence vote.

Restoring the National Assembly, the court also announced that the prime minister and federal ministers, ministers of state, advisers, etc., would be restored to their respective offices on April 3.

The top court further ruled that the session of the National Assembly on the no-confidence motion should be held on Saturday and should not be adjourned till the vote on the motion is held. During the interview, Khan made no reference to the Supreme Court’s decision.
