Importance of eating the right food combinations

Food combinations are very important to maintain good health and stay fit. It helps us to avoid many chronic non-communicable diseases like heart problems and diabetes. It also helps in proper digestion and supports weight loss. Food combination advocates that different foods have certain pH levels and therefore, some of them cannot be consumed together as they can be harmful to you. Here are some guidelines for the right food combinations that are good for our health.

1. Do not mix food with starch or sugar with protein or fruit containing acid.

2. Consume protein, starch and fat in moderation.

3. Eat only whole, unprocessed grains (such as no white flour or refined sugar).

Recently, Food Therapist Dr Riya Banerjee Ankola shared a post about the importance of eating the right combination of food.

In the post, he said that it is absolutely okay to not feel hungry someday and it is a very normal thing. But one should not eat too much and eat the right combination of food. He also said that when we talk about food, even if it is a small amount of food, the amount of each nutrient placed on our plate matters.

He further explained with an example and said that while eating idli, when one eats idli, he gets hungry within an hour, but when idli is eaten with sambar and chutney, it makes the person less hungry. Makes stomach feel full for at least 3-4 hours.

He said that eating idli is like eating rice in large quantities which is a carbohydrate, which will first increase the insulin level and make us hungry soon. Hence, we need to add some vegetables, proteins and good fats to help us stay fuller for some time.

Hence, it is safe to say that choosing the right combination of food for daily diet is very essential for everyone to stay fit and healthy.
