Implement Uniform Civil Code, Remove Article 30, Says Heirs Of Late Ram Janmabhoomi Trust Chief

Mahant Kamal Nayan Das, the successor of late Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, President of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi, called for special privileges to minorities, equal rights to every citizen, implementation of a Uniform Civil Code and freeing Hindu temples from government clutches. Tirth Kshetra- also demanded the repeal of Article 30 of the Constitution.

Mahant Kamal Nayan Das was speaking at the Ayodhya festival organized by the Ayodhya Nyas in the national capital. Das demanded a Uniform Civil Code in the presence of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who recently announced an expert panel to prepare a draft for the UCC.

“Iran, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan were once part of our country, and look at the condition of our brothers. See also Bengal and Kerala. There the population of Hindus is only 10 percent. All these discrepancies will end with the implementation of Uniform Civil Code along with measures to control population.

Later, BJP MP from Ayodhya Lallu Singh told Das that Uttarakhand has started the process of implementing UCC.

The demand for scrapping of Article 30, put forward by Nitya Gopal Das’s successor, comes at a time when there is a debate over the playing of Azaan and Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers and communal tension has led to violence in some areas.

Article 30 deals with the rights of minorities to establish and administer educational institutions and states that the state shall not discriminate in granting aid to minority institutions.

“I had come to this celebration of Ayodhya festival in the hope of meeting the Union Home Minister. I would have requested the minister to remove Article 30 which is important for the sovereignty of the country. We do not discriminate or disrespect the Quran and the Bible. But the Constitution allows the IAS to read them but not the Gita.”

The Mahant also reiterated the demand to free the temples from government control.

He said that majority in the country are treated as second class citizens.

“Hindu temples and monasteries have receivers who collect money and give it to the government treasury. That money is used…if you remember, the then Prime Minister once said that the first right (over resources) would be of minorities. This money will be given to madrasas and Christian missionaries.”
