IMF tells Pakistan to function as a country, tax the rich

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Monday asked cash-strapped Pakistan to start acting as a single country and ensure that the rich pay taxes and only the poor get subsidies. Pakistan is on the verge of default.

In an interview with German state broadcaster Deutsche Welle, IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva said Pakistan needed to take tough measures to avoid slipping into a dangerous place.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that Pakistan is already bankrupt and IMF bailout is not the solution to its problems.
