IMD Says Cyclone ‘Mandous’ Likely to Form Over Bay of Bengal, Reach Tamil Nadu, Andhra Coasts by Dec 8

A cyclone is likely to form over southwest Bay of Bengal and reach Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining Andhra Pradesh coasts this week. This will be the second post-monsoon cyclone and once formed it will be known as Mandus.

Hindustan Times reported that the India Meteorological Department on Monday said that the low-pressure area in the south Andaman Sea and neighborhood is likely to move west-northwest and concentrate into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal by the evening of December 6. It is possible

The low pressure area is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm and reach southwest Bay of Bengal near north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coast by morning of 8 December.

In view of this development, light to moderate rain is very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Tuesday. The IMD also said that rain activity would increase with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places over North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from December 7 midnight. Rainfall with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places very likely over North Tamil Nadu & Puducherry on 8th December and heavy to very heavy falls over Tamil Nadu on 9th December. ,

The weather office has predicted wind speed to gradually increase to 55-65 kmph, gusting to 75 kmph on 7th December and 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph The prevailing wind speed was expected to be in the same area on 8 December.

The weather forecast said that the sea condition is very likely to be very rough over southwest and adjoining areas of west central Bay of Bengal from December 6 to December 8.
