New Delhi: Amid heavy rains in Mumbai for the fourth consecutive day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday (July 7, 2022) issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for tomorrow (July 8, 2022). The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain in the city and suburbs and very heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. A civic official said that the IMD has also predicted the possibility of gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph at times.
Skymet Weather Vice President (Meteorology and Climate Change) Mahesh Palawat said that due to a cyclonic circulation developing over central Pakistan, there is a possibility of heavy rain at some places of Punjab and Haryana on Saturday and Sunday. The meteorologist said that Delhi-NCR, West Uttar Pradesh and Northwest Rajasthan are also expected to receive good rains soon.
Mumbai beaches will be open only from 6 am to 10 am
Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday announced a ban on public movements on beaches across Mumbai. “Keeping in view the heavy rains and drowning incidents, all beaches of Mumbai will be opened for general public from 6 am to 10 am only,” the BMC said. IMD’s Jayant Sarkar said, “Orange alert has been issued for today, while red alert has been issued for tomorrow in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar.” Due to favorable monsoon conditions, Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan region have received good rains in the last 3-4 days. “It will remain like this for the next 4-5 days,” the government said.

On Thursday, sultry weather conditions prevailed in Delhi as rains continued in the national capital with the maximum temperature reaching 39.1 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature settled at 30 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, due to moderate rain on Saturday, the temperature can drop to 33 degrees Celsius. According to the latest IMD forecast, Delhi will see generally cloudy skies and light rain till July 13.

Heavy to very heavy rain in Rajasthan
Many parts of West Rajasthan received heavy to very heavy rains since Wednesday, while some parts of East Rajasthan received light to moderate rains. IMD has predicted heavy rain in Jhalawar, Dungarpur, Banswara, Pratapgarh, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Sirohi, Barmer, Jalore districts till Friday.
Rain will continue in Gujarat for the next few days
Parts of South Gujarat and Saurashtra region received heavy rains on Thursday and more rains are expected in the state for the next four days. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at most places of the state in the next four days. An official said that Southwest Monsoon is now active over the entire state due to low pressure and associated cyclonic circulation over South Pakistan.
Heavy rains continue in many parts of Karnataka
Heavy rains are disrupting normal life in the coastal areas of Karnataka and Malnad region, causing loss of life and property in the affected areas. According to the Meteorological Department, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur over all the districts of Coastal Karnataka. Apart from this, heavy to very heavy rain is very likely at isolated places over Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu and Shivamogga districts of South Interior Karnataka.
