imd: Imd Issues Yellow Warning Of Hail And Thunderstorm | Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi: The state is set to receive thunderstorms and light to moderate rain with chances of very heavy rainfall in isolated places during the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday. The IMD also issued a yellow category warning for the entire state in the wake of a system building up under the influence of a western disturbance. Apart from heavy rainfall in isolated places, the IMD has also predicted chances of hailstorms in northern and adjoining central districts of the state on Friday.
In its afternoon bulletin, the IMD said the western disturbance lies as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and its neighborhood between 3.1 and 5.8 km above the mean sea level. A trough aloft in the middle and upper tropospheric levels with its axis at 7.6 mm above the mean sea level is also present. Further, an induced low-pressure area lies over northwest Rajasthan and its neighborhood and is associated with cyclonic circulation in lower tropospheric levels. IMD Ranchi head and scientist, Abhishek Anand, said the high moisture from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal to northwest India at lower and middle tropospheric levels is very likely to continue during the next 24 hours. “It is because of this moisture feeding that the cyclonic system would have an impact over most parts of Jharkhand during the next 24 hours, starting from late Thursday night,” he said.
Anand said apart from chances of heavy rainfall in the northeast and central parts of the state, there are chances of hailstorms in the northern and central parts of Jharkhand. He also said there is a likelihood of a two to three-degree increase in the night temperature and a fall of similar quantum in the day temperature. The rainfall activity would subside by Saturday, bringing down the night temperature by three to five notches. “Fog is expected on Saturday morning with a dip in the morning temperature,” Anand said.
On Thursday, most weather stations in the state recorded an increase in both minimum and maximum temperatures. While Jamshedpur recorded 29.9°C maximum temperature, Garhwa at 10°C minimum temperature was the coldest. Ranchi with 26.6°C day temperature and 12.1°C night temperature was 2.5°C and 1.2°C above normal.
