PUNE: With day and night temperatures remaining 2-3 degrees Celsius above normal in the city, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast hotter daytimes and nights ahead for Pune in coming days.
The IMD’s Shivajinagar observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 33.1 degrees Celsius on Saturday and a minimum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius on Sunday morning.
On Sunday, day temperatures at Shivajinagar and Lohegaon increased to 33.6 degrees Celsius and 34.2 degrees Celsius, respectively, both of which were above normal by one degree Celsius and 1.2 degrees Celsius respectively, said the Met officials.
The officials also said that the day temperature is likely to increase by 1-2 degrees Celsius in the next few days; Meanwhile, the night temperatures will likely hover at 13-15 degrees Celsius.
A senior Met official, choosing to stay anonymous, indicated the presence of upper air circulation over northwest Rajasthan, affecting weather here. He added that there is also another upper air circulation present over the Madhya Maharashtra region, which includes Pune district. Under the influence of these weather conditions, there is interaction between winds over the region.
“Because of these weather phenomena, Madhya Maharashtra is likely to experience clear sky conditions for the next few days. It will result in a rise in day and night temperatures in this duration, by 1-2 degrees Celsius,” said the Met official.
Barring the Malegaon weather station that is located in Nashik district, all other stations in Madhya Maharashtra recorded an increase in day temperatures in the range of one or two degrees Celsius. Solapur was the hottest place in the state. It recorded 35.4 degrees Celsius, which was above normal by 0.5 degrees Celsius.
Just last week, IMD and Power System Operation Corporation Ltd signed an MoU for optimum use of weather information/forecast in the power sector. A web portal has been dedicated to it. Weather information provided on the portal is used by power system operators across India for better management of the system.
