BHUBANESWAR: Following a spell of unseasonal rain, night temperature will drop again across the state and cold wave condition will prevail in SundargarhJharsuguda and Keonjhar districts on Sunday and Monday, an Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast said on Saturday.
Along with the intense cold condition, dense fog will occur at isolated places in some districts and continue for three days from Sunday evening, the forecast said. A possibility of rain and thunderstorm activities may occur again at some places next week, it added.
“Night temperature dropped at many places on Saturday. The mercury will drop further by two to three degrees Celsius on Sunday. Cold wave warning will be issued in some districts,” said HR Biswas, scientist and head of the regional IMD center here.
“Night temperature will rise again next week. Rain and thunderstorm activities will occur in some north Odisha pockets by February 10 due to the influence of western disturbances,” Biswas added.
Former director of the IMD regional centre, Sarat Chandra Sahu, said on February 9 and 10, the state may witness light to moderate rainfall.
The office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) on Saturday sent a routine advisory to the collectors of all districts, asking them to stay alert a government official said.
Several places in western and north Odisha received rain in the last 24 hours. Bhograi in Balasore district recorded the highest 55mm rainfall, the IMD rainfall report, recorded on Saturday morning, said. The city recorded 2mm rain. At 9.6 degrees Celsius, Jharsuguda recorded the highest drop of 4.7 degrees Celsius from the normal temperature.
