ILT20: Robin Uthappa’s Belts 46-ball 79 But Dubai Capitals Lose to Gulf Giants

Batting first, Dubai Capitals posted a challenging total of 182/8 but James Vince hit seven fours and three sixes in his 56-ball innings as the Giants won in 19 overs.

east India Batsman Robin Uthappa played a blistering inning of 79 runs in 46 balls with the help of 10 fours and two sixes but his team Dubai Capitals suffered a six-wicket defeat against Gulf Giants in the International League T20 match.

Gulf Giants captain James Vince, who scored 65 in the team’s opening match, scored an unbeaten 83 to ensure his side’s victory with six balls to spare here on Monday.

Batting first, Dubai Capitals posted a challenging score of 182/8. Vince hit seven fours and three sixes in his 56-ball innings as the Giants won in 19 overs.

Vince and Gerhard Erasmus shared an impressive 107-run partnership for the third wicket. Erasmus scored 52 runs in 28 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes.

Earlier, Giants had opted to bowl and Uthappa, fresh from the exploits of his opening match against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, immediately went for his shots.

Uthappa teased local player Sanchit Sharma in his second over with a four and a six. In the fifth over, Uthappa hit Sharma for three fours and a six to take 21 runs from that over.

Former England captain Joe Root and Uthappa shared a 50-run partnership in the sixth over with a 26-ball half-century.

During the chase, the Gulf Giants were 76 for 2 during the front-10, requiring 107 runs. Erasmus hit two consecutive sixes off Dasun Shanaka in the 11th over. Vince completed his second consecutive half-century by hitting a four and a six off Mujeeb in the 13th over.

In the 15th over, Erasmus hit three fours through some brilliant steering shorts. He also survived being caught by Ravi Bopara at covers at 42.

With 42 needed off the last five overs, Erasmus also reached his half-century but was run out for 52, backing a single off a straight drive from Vince.

The next player Shimron Hetmyer fell to Powell for 6 but Vince held on to take his team to their target.
