‘I’ll be there, 100 percent’: David Warner on plans to attend ‘Idol’ Shane Warne’s funeral

Australia opener David Warner is planning to attend the funeral of spin wizard Shane Warne, who died of a heart attack in Thailand on March 4. The untimely demise of the former cricketer has left the international cricket fraternity in a state of great shock.

Warner, who is currently in Pakistan for a bilateral series, said that he is still trying to realize that Warne is no longer alive. He said that he will return home after the final Test of the three-match series as he is not part of the subsequent limited-overs series. Warne’s state funeral is to be held on March 30.

Before the second Test in Karachi starting on Saturday, Warner said, “It is not completely submerged yet. When we first came to know, we thought it was a joke.

“I’ll be there, 100 percent. It’s definitely going to be extremely emotional for everyone. There will be a lot of respecters. You just look at the tributes from around the world – they’ve touched millions and millions of people, and from different countries, “They said.

Warner said that he grew up idolizing Warne. “As a kid, I used to put up his poster on the wall. I wanted to be like Shane,” he said.

Nevertheless, Warner has drawn his fans to Pakistan, where Australia is touring for the first time since 1998, refusing to go first on security grounds. The edgy opener has wowed the crowd by showcasing his dance moves to the music played between overs or to his chants as he accompanies the audience.

“We are entertainers too. If I’m not playing in the middle where I’m batting, I like to engage with the fans. I have nothing but great words to say about the place,” he said.
