IIT Madras to Offer Industry Skill Certification Programme to UG, PG Students

IIT Madras said that the programs are open to students from first semester to third semester of BE/BTech, BSc, MSc, BBA, MBA, BCA and MCA degree courses.

IIT Madras’s Enabler Technologies Foundation has partnered with Gradsky to train college students on ‘industry-ready deployable skills’. People from industry will directly train the students on various technologies as peer-to-peer learning makes it easier for the students. the institute said. Programs are open to students from 1st semester to 3rd semester of BE/B.Tech, BSc, MSc, BBA, MBA, BCA and MCA degree courses.

These industry skill programs are designed for a longer duration of three years, which would be the duration of a student’s degree program. However, the courses have been divided into a short, annual certification program to gradually skill students as per their learning pace, the institute said.

The institute claimed, “This can meet a pressing need as many colleges in Tier-2 and 3 cities do not have access to industry experts to teach technical skills required by the industry.” The courses will be offered in in-person mode at educational institutions where more than 100 students sign up. In other institutions, it will be offered in hybrid mode, with around 60-75 per cent online, and the remaining classes in physical mode. The course fees will range between Rs. Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 per student per semester.

Highlighting the need for such industry skill training programs, Professor Mangala Sundar, Emeritus Professor, Department of Chemistry, IIT Madras and Founder-Coordinator, Digital Skills Academy-IIT Madras said, “The training opportunities provided to the students have multiple outcomes. can; Not only would one be able to solve industry-related problems and gain experience, but would also be able to design new programs and explore new start-up opportunities, resulting in employment for many others.
