The new four-year program has been planned to help the country meet the growing demand for skilled graduates in the electronics and embedded manufacturing sector.

Milan Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launches a new course at Indian Institute technology (IIT) Madras today, 6 March. New four-year online program – Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electronic Systems launched virtually. Candidates can apply for the program by visiting the official IIT Madras website.

This is the second online Bachelor of Science course at IIT Madras after the BS degree in Data Science and Applications, which according to the institute currently has over 17,000 enrollments. The new four-year program has been planned to help the country meet the growing demand for skilled graduates in the electronics and embedded manufacturing sector.

eligibility criteria

The Bachelor of Science in Electronic Systems is open to anyone with an interest in Electronic Systems, regardless of their age. The only eligibility criteria is that a candidate must have studied/passed Mathematics and Physics as part of his/her class 12 or its equivalent. Students will not require Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) score for this course. They can secure a place through an in-built four-week qualifier process.

Candidates applying for the BS in Electronic Systems will be given access to four weeks of hands-on learning sessions taught by IIT Madras faculty. After that the students will have to appear for a qualifier exam which will be completely based on the material provided only.

Students who are currently in class 12th can also apply and secure a seat after successfully passing their board exams this year. Even those who are currently pursuing any other academic course (under UGC regulations) or working professionals can also apply and advance themselves in this field.

IIT Madras had notified that the fee structure would be affordable. The institute will also provide additional scholarship to students belonging to SC/ST/PWD categories and those with family income of less than Rs.5 lakh per annum. Details on full free structure are still awaited

Students who obtain the minimum required marks in the qualifying examination can continue with the program as there is no limit on the number of seats in the BS in Electronic Systems programme. During the course, students will be provided with recorded video lectures, weekly assessments, reading material, tutorials and interactive doubt-clearing sessions.
