His parents and a section of students alleged foul play in the incident, while an IIT Kharagpur spokesperson said the institute was conducting its own investigation and assisting the police in the investigation. Bhargav Maitra, dean of the students’ institute, who was appointed a few days after Dhrubajyoti Sen’s resignation, told PTI, “I am always present whenever students come to me with a problem. The dean of students was an ongoing process and the prerogative of the dean of students.

“When the term of the Council ends, it has to be constituted. And it is the dean’s prerogative to decide how he goes ahead with the process (reorganisation). The members are in the working group to deal with harassment of students in hostels.

The Working Group on Bullying will also deal with issues like depression among students, especially during and after the lockdown. The Calcutta High Court is hearing Faizan’s death case which is expected to come up again in February.
