Indian Institute technology (IIT) Kanpur and Loham Cleantech have entered into a partnership of strategic importance for R&D collaboration in sustainability and other key areas. The collaboration seeks to achieve the common objectives of reducing the EV battery carbon footprint and accelerating India’s ongoing energy transition.

As part of the collaboration, Professor Kanwar Singh Nalwa, from the Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering at IIT Kanpur, will work with Loham on projects aimed at improving testing methods for lithium-ion batteries and ways to assess their quality. Will be in charge of the group. Raw material used in batteries. Initiatives planned as part of the partnership will contribute to the creation of key technologies to ensure the safety and durability of batteries.

According to Professor Kanwar Singh Nalwa, this collaboration is an important step towards advancing sustainable energy and circular economy in India. Nalwa said this improves the ecosystem of industry-academia linkages that the Indian government is working to promote.

Loham will also sponsor R&D laboratories at IIT Kanpur, provide research fellowships to PhD students, support the IITK Motorsports team, and assist IITK in commercializing research outputs.

IIT Kanpur Director Prof. Abhay Karandikar said the collaboration is expected to assist the institute in enhancing the sustainability of lithium-ion batteries through joint research and development initiatives.

“This adds to IIT Kanpur’s tireless efforts in creating an R&D ecosystem more aligned towards a sustainable future. The partnership also testifies to a flourishing academia-industry partnership in achieving shared goals,” Karandikar said.

“This collaboration will help us develop innovative and sustainable solutions for the battery industry, which is crucial for the growth of EVs in the country,” Rajat Verma, CEO of Loham Cleantech and an alumnus of IIT Kanpur, said in a statement.

Over time, it is anticipated that the scope of collaboration will expand even further as LOHM and IITK seek opportunities to work together on other important projects, which may include government initiatives.
