Iim-a Placements Move Out Of Covid Shadow | Ahmedabad News – Times of India

AHMEDABAD: The final placements of the flagship postgraduate program of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, concluded on Monday. Considered a barometer of industry trends, recruiters’ participation and sectors chosen by students indicate the industry is out of the shadow of Covid. IIM-A sources said the number of firms participating and offers made improved compared to 2020 and 2021, the Covid years.
Of 400-odd students who sat for placement, all were placed in three days in 20 cohorts ranging from consulting to IT/ITeS and investment banking to retail. While officials did not divulge the actual number of international placements, citing consolidation of data and closing of certain offers, they indicated that it was more than past two years, which witnessed nine and 19 offers, respectively.“About 50% offers in the third cluster — comprising analytics and IT consulting, banking, insurance, consumer tech, enterprises tech, financial services, and fintech were international offers,” said an official.
“This year we had one of the best placement seasons ever, with companies across sectors and geographies hiring in significantly larger numbers. This change can be attributed to the markets and boundaries opening up after the pandemic,” said Prof. Ankur Sinhachairperson of placements at IIM-A.
Officials in the placement office said management consulting, finance and marketing were the biggest recruiters — a marked shift from 2021, when the IT and healthcare industry, riding a boom due to the pandemic, were among the biggest recruiters. “The maximum increase in recruitment has been witnessed from the consulting, fintech (financial technology) and consumer goods and durables sectors,” said the official.
While the institute remained tight-lipped about the highest and average pay packages, sources said they were higher than last year when Rs 55 lakh per annum was the highest offer accepted in the domestic market and Rs 1.16 crore ($154,355) per annum in the international market. Remuneration packages in 2021 were lower than the Rs 72 lakh (domestic) and $180,645 (overseas) packages seen in 2020.
The Boston Consulting Group made 47 offers, more than its 32 and 27 offers in 2021 and 2020, respectively. Other recruiters included American Express, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan ChaseKearney, McKinsey & Company, Coca Cola, ITC, P&G, nykaaAmazon, and Adani Group.
