A Bangkok-bound Indian passenger was caught at the Delhi airport by CISF personnel for allegedly carrying foreign currency worth about Rs 50 lakh by concealing it in clothes kept in his luggage, officials said on Sunday. The man was stopped by security personnel at Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport during security check at around 10.30 am on Saturday.
The personnel on duty noticed suspicious images of currency notes on the X-ray scanner and hence decided to investigate further. A senior official said the passenger was to board an Indigo Airlines flight to Bangkok.
A bundle of clothes kept in his luggage was found in cash of Euro 51,800 and USD 5,000, which is worth around Rs 50 lakh, they said. The official said the passenger was handed over to Customs officials for further investigation as he could not provide a valid reason for carrying such a huge amount of cash.
