If your PC or laptop has these processors, Windows 11 is not supported and you will not get the free upgrade – Times of India

We have already told you about the minimum PC requirements for Windows 11, which Microsoft announced last week. The basic PC requirements for the operating system are as follows – >1GHz, 2-core processor, 4GB of memory, and 64GB of storage.
But what processor? because we have a system running intel core i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD and Nvidia GeFore GTX 970M graphics card and PC Health Checkup, a ‘novel’ tool launched by Microsoft that allows you to run Windows 11 compatibility tests that say ‘Your processor is not compatible’ ‘.
But, what went wrong here, the sixth generation Intel Core The i7 itself is a very powerful processor. Well, the reason behind this is that there is a line in the sand of processors that Microsoft has drawn and said, nothing older than this is compatible with our ‘latest and greatest’ operating system. Doesn’t matter if it is octa-core, quad-core or clocked at 3.5GHz.
So, which are these processors that Windows 11 supports? Thankfully, Microsoft has replaced Intel and . Both have removed the full list of processors amd Which will support Windows 11. We looked at that list and found that for Intel processors, it has to be anything from 8th generation or newer and for AMD Ryzen Series, anything from the second generation will work.
Yes, there are other processors that are supported such as Intel Atom, Pentium, Xenon and Celeron processors in the list. You can read the full list here ( Intel | amd)
But the deal is that nowadays most people buy Intel Core series laptops or AMD Ryzen laptops and most of them don’t upgrade their laptops every three or four years. So even if your laptop is three years old, has a good and powerful processor that can handle multiple monitors, graphics intensive games or Photoshop, Premiere Pro etc without breaking a sweat- it is not good for Windows 11 operating system. Microsoft will not allow you to upgrade to Windows 11 for free.
Even with all these detailed lists of requirements, there is still a chance that you could buy a new laptop today and it will not be compatible with Windows 11.
