Responding to a media question on ‘love jihad’, BJP leader Pankaja Munde on Sunday said that it is not on the agenda of the central government.
Addressing a press conference in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Munde said, “…I believe that love is love. Love does not believe in any barriers. If two people come together purely out of love If there is, it should be respected. Cheating in an interfaith marriage should be looked at differently.”
To a specific question on ‘love jihad’ during the press conference, the senior BJP leader said it has never been an agenda for the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “A topic like ‘Love Jihad’ has also not been on the agenda of the Modi government. However, on 16 May, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that his government took a serious note of the promotion of ‘love jihad’, ‘conversion’ and ‘terrorist activities’ and would stop such practices in the state. will not be permitted. CM Chouhan made the remarks while talking to reporters in state capital Bhopal on the recent crackdown by the Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) against members belonging to radical Islamic outfit Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HUT).
“We are going into the depth of the facts that have come to the fore regarding HUT members. What is clear is that we have taken very seriously the issue of promoting love jihad, religious conversion and terrorist activities. I want to I want to make it clear that neither love jihad nor conversion will be tolerated in the state.
He said, “Earlier also, we had destroyed the network of SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India) in the state and will not tolerate such activities at any cost. The arrest of the HUT members is under investigation. Madhya Pradesh ATS is working.” with the central agencies in this regard.
Munde said on Sunday, ‘Last year before the Gujarat assembly elections, BJP had promised to bring a law against ‘love jihad’. Marked by all round development and welfare policies.
