If the life certificate is not submitted, the pension will stop from next month, know the new rule

Pensioners across India will be gearing up to submit their annual life certificate in October. For those who submit it online, it is known as digital life certificate. Pensioners are allowed to submit documents in a few different ways. One way is definitely online. As per the Office Memorandum issued by the Government, a pensioner or a family pensioner who is not resident in India shall submit to his duly authorized agent a life certificate signed by a magistrate, a notary, a banker or a diplomatic representative of India can say. In this case, they do not need to attend the submission personally.

The certificate can also be submitted online through the Aadhaar based biometric authentication system. One just needs to visit the URL (https://jeevanpramaan.gov.in/) and start the submission process.

It is to be noted that the Indian Embassy, ​​High Commission or Indian Consulate may also assist the citizens in submitting their respective life certificates. This is exclusively for NRI pensioners and family pensioners who are unable to come to India for personal identification. This can be done with the use of the photograph affixed in the PPO or the pensioner’s photograph on the passport or any other equivalent identification document.

In the event that you are unable to visit the local embassy or consulate in person, you must submit a doctor’s certificate stating the reason for your inability to contact the embassy in person. In this case the Indian Embassy, ​​High Commission or Indian Consulate can also help you in submitting the documents.

Note that from October 1, 2021, there will also be a facility for pensioners to submit digital life certificates at their local Jeevan Pramaan Kendras (JPCs) at Head Post Offices. Submission of certificates by pensioners aged 80 years and above will be allowed from the beginning of the next calendar month all the way up to November 30, 2021. In light of this new activity, the Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications is ensuring that all Jeevan Pramaan Kendra IDs are active.

Post offices across the country have been directed to set up Jeevan Pramaan Kendras at Head Post Offices, if not already done. They have also been asked to generate Jeevan Pramaan IDs and ensure that they are active with Common Service Centers (CSCs). He was given a deadline of September 20, 2021, to do so.

Last year, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the threat it poses to the elderly, it was decided that it would be in their interest to extend the existing time limit for submission of life certificates.

Now, if you consider the online submission option, you do not need to visit any bank or post office. You can simply opt for ‘Jeevan Pramaan’ an Aadhaar based Digital Life Certificate (DLC) which is an added facility to the already existing method of submitting Life Certificate in physical form. Once you do this, the form is automatically processed and sent to the bank branch or post office of the concern and serves as a proof that the pensioner is indeed alive.

Having said that, you need to keep an eye on the date and start the submission process at the earliest to avoid any unforeseen setbacks at the last minute.
