India’s longest format match-winner Virender Sehwag on Friday said that if Rishabh Pant wants to enter the record books forever, he should strive to play 100 Test matches for the country.

Sehwag, the only cricketer in the country to score two triple centuries in Test cricket, is among 11 Indians who have played more than 100 Tests and scored more than 8,500 runs.
Pant, who has a remarkable record of being the only Indian keeper to score Test centuries in Australia, England and South Africa, has played 30 Tests so far and scored 1920 runs at an average of 40.85.
“If he (Pant) continues to play 100+ Tests, his name will be etched in the history books forever. Only 11 Indian cricketers have achieved this feat, and everyone can remember those 11 names.
The ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’ said that it is okay to enjoy the matches won in T20 and ODI immediately, but in the long run people only remember what you did in the white jersey.
“Why do you do Virat Kohli So much emphasis on playing Tests? He knows that if he plays 100-150 or even 200 Tests, he will be immortalized in the record books,” Sehwag said.
Sehwag also spoke about his tendency to hit boundaries on the first ball. “Many people, including Tendulkar, told me that I planned to hit the first ball over the fence. But I never did that,” admits Sehwag, who is second in the list of batsmen with most boundaries in an innings in both Tests and ODIs.
“I would be prepared to hit the first ball, thinking it would be looser or a warm-up delivery more often,” he said.
