IDF officer arrested for secretly filming women soldiers

An Israeli Defense Forces officer was arrested two weeks ago for suspected sex offences, including secretly filming female soldiers. A gag order barring publication of the case was lifted on Wednesday.

At a military driving school at Bahad 6 Base, Lieutenant Colonel Dan Sharoney is suspected of crimes including breach of confidentiality.

Over the course of several years, at the various bases where she served, Sharoni allegedly filmed female soldiers using hidden cameras.

At least some devices were disguised as mobile phone chargers.

According to a Channel 12 report, Sharoni allegedly committed a similar crime against female citizens.

He is also suspected of illegally transferring intimate photographs of female soldiers under his command on his own cell phone.

On Wednesday he was produced before a special military court at the Kirya army complex in Tel Aviv.

The Cannes public broadcaster reported that there are at least 15 women complainants in the case, and there are likely many more involved.

IDF Military Police investigators are handling the case.

One of the alleged victims wrote in a widely read social media post, “Sharonie chose to covertly film over 30 girls over five years. I am one of them.”

She said she saw Sharonie as a father figure, a friend and an effective commander, but “it was all a lie.”

“A month ago he put me in quarantine on base in his room,” she wrote. “When I went to Dan’s room I found several chargers connected to outlets. I got a message from him in which he instructed me not to remove any charger.

“It turned out that everything was connected to cameras – a camera in front of the bed, a camera in the shower, a camera in the bathroom and in all other places that only a distorted could think of.”

“The cameras filmed me 24/7, dressed, in the shower, drying with a towel, falling asleep, straight to my officer,” he said, adding that other women had Sharoni hacking their phones and giving them theirs. There were stories of filming in the living quarters. ,

The case pertains to two other high-profile incidents of alleged sexual offenses against women soldiers.

On Wednesday, Gilboa Prison Commander Freddy Ben Schitritt appeared to confirm 2018 reports that female soldiers who were serving as guards were serving their military in the prison. Palestinian terrorists were “betrayed”.

Last week, an officer in an elite Navy unit was charged Along with three cases of rape against another soldier in the case that shook the service branch.
