ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 Latest Points Table Update After India’s Loss To South Africa

With their latest defeat in the third Test against South Africa, India, the runners-up of the previous cycle, have dropped to fifth in the latest ICC World Test Championship (2021-23) standings. And with their resounding win, hosts South Africa swapped places with India and now occupy the fourth spot in the updated table.

India has played nine Tests in the latest World Championship cycle so far of which they have won four, lost three and drawn two matches. He has collected a total of 53 marks and his percentage of marks (PCT) is 49.07.

South Africa, on the other hand, have won two of their three Tests of the ongoing cycle, losing once. He has 24 points and PCT is 66.66.

Sri Lanka top the table with 100 PCTs, having won both their matches of the cycle, followed by Australia (83.33 PCT) second and Pakistan (75 PCT) third.

England is at the bottom with 10.41 pct. The Joe Root-led side have won just one of their 10 Tests, lost five and drawn two.

Notably, India have also been docked three points for a slow over rate, while England have suffered a loss of 10 points. According to ICC rules, a slow over rate requires “teams to lose one championship point for each short over”.

India kicked off their WTC cycle last year with a five-match Test tour of England, which was unfortunately cut to four and the final match was postponed due to Covid issues. India won two Tests on the tour while losing once.

India next hosted New Zealand for a two-Test series to be played in Kanpur and Mumbai. The first Test ended in a draw, before India registered a massive victory in the second to seal the series 1–0.

India is scheduled to host Sri Lanka for a two-Test series in February-March this year.
