The Australian women’s cricket team on Sunday registered a 19-run victory in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa at a packed Newlands Stadium. Led by an unbeaten 74 from Beth Mooney, Australia posted a total of 156/6, and an exceptional bowling performance saw South Africa fall short of their target.

The win marks Australia’s sixth Women’s T20 World Cup title as they have completed a ‘three-peat’ under Meg Lanning’s captaincy, having won in 2018, 2020 and now in 2023, according to an ICC report.
Defending a target of 157, Australia’s bowlers initially limited the scoring rate of the South African openers, scoring only 22 runs in the powerplay. Darcy Brown’s electric performance sent Tazmin Britts back to the dugout early.
Although Laura Wolvaardt hit several big shots, scoring 61 off 48 balls, the rest of the South African batsmen struggled to raise the scoring rate. Megan Schutt dismissed Wolvaardt, while Jess Jonassen clean-bowled Chloe Tryon, who scored 25 off 23 balls, in the death overs.
Australia comfortably won the match by 19 runs, adding more silverware to their already impressive trophy cabinet.
