ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022: Match schedule announced, India to start campaign against South Africa

West Indies to host 14th edition of ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket For the first time ever, the World Cup, as an event showcasing the sport’s future stars, will see 16 teams travel to the Caribbean from January 14 to February 5 to compete in 48 matches in four host countries.

Sixteen teams competing will see current holders Bangladesh, England, Canada and the United Arab Emirates form Group A, with debutant Uganda being placed in Group B along with India, South Africa and Ireland. Group C consists of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Papua New Guinea and Group D sees hosts West Indies, Australia and Sri Lanka.

Scotland completed the tournament line-up in Group D after New Zealand withdrew due to extensive mandatory quarantine restrictions for minors upon their return home.

The four host nations have been confirmed as Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana, St Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago, with ten venues hosting matches. The top two teams from each of the four groups in the format will advance to the Super League, while the remaining teams will join the plate over 23 days of competition.

The 48-match schedule will begin with hosts West Indies taking on Australia, with Sri Lanka taking on Scotland in Guyana on January 14. The group stage will take place in Guyana, St Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago from January 14 to 22.

Trinidad and Tobago will host the plate competition between January 25 and 31, with the Super League taking place in Antigua and Barbuda from January 26. The semi-finals will be played on February 1 at two venues; Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground and Coolidge Cricket Ground on 2 February. The final will also take place on 5 February at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.

Chris Tetley, head of ICC events, said in a statement on Wednesday.

West Indies have won the title once in 2016, with India four times, Australia thrice, Pakistan twice while England, South Africa and Bangladesh have won the title once each.

There will be 16 practice matches between January 9 and 12 in St Kitts and Nevis and Guyana.
