Left-arm spinner Nosthush Pradeep Kenjige had aspired to play for Indian cricket team. He, however, found it difficult to accomplish this task. As per Local18 Karnataka, he has chosen a different path to remain committed to his passion for cricket. He has been selected for the USA’s T20 cricket team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Nosthush made his debut in international cricket for the USA in 2019. A seasoned cricketer, he has spent almost a decade learning the nuances of the game. He learned it in the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s first division with various teams. Hailing from Kenjige village located in Mudigere taluka of Chikkamagaluru district, Nosthush had earlier played club cricket in Bengaluru.

Due to the lack of opportunities in the Indian cricket team, the Kenjige native has now secured himself a place in the USA’s team. He is confident of playing for the USA’s team match against the Indian T20 cricket team to be held on June 12.

According to a report in the Times of India, Nosthush moved to the USA at 25 when his hopes of wearing the Indian Cricket Team’s jersey diminished. He told the portal,” When I left for the US, I thought I was done with cricket. I went there to work, though I did play in local matches.” He managed to impress the scouts at the team trial hubs, held across the states and then made a mark in the open trials and selection matches as well. He, however, had to wait for three more years to become eligible to play for the US as, despite being a US citizen, he had not lived in the country for four years.

In an earlier interview with the Deccan Herald, Nosthush described how different are the formats of the US and the Indian cricket team games. “Unlike in India, where a national cricketer just focuses on his game, here in the US we are juggling our work-life with cricket. Once I was picked for the camp, I had to complete 100 days of community service to become an eligible player. This involves coaching players, playing matches and taking up different kinds of activities.”
