ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022: India to start campaign against Pakistan on 23 October

Inaugural champions India will take on Pakistan in their opening match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 to be played in Australia later this year. Hosts Australia announced the tournament schedule of the marquee event on Thursday, starting their title defense against New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 22 October.

The T20 World Cup 2022 will begin on October 16 with the first round where eight teams will compete for a place in the Super 12 stage. The final will be played on 13 November at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

In Round 1, 2014 winners Sri Lanka will start the tournament from Namibia on 16 October at Kardinia Park in Geelong and will have two qualifiers for the company in their Group A. Two-time champions West Indies and Scotland will also start. This round is placed in Group B and will also include two qualifiers.

In the Super 12 stage, hosts Australia are placed in Group 1 along with 2021 runners-up New Zealand, England, Afghanistan. They will be joined by the Group A winners and Group B runners-up.

After taking on Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, India will take on Group A runners-up at the SCG on 27 October and then South Africa in Perth followed by Bangladesh on 2 November (Adelaide Oval) and then Group B winners. November 6 at the MCG.

A total of 16 teams will participate in this global event, in which 45 matches are to be played. The matches will be held in Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

The semi-finals will be played on 9 and 10 November at the SCG and the Adelaide Oval.
