The trio of stars from Australia, England and South Africa – Ashleigh Gardner, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Laura Wolvaardt, who dominated the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup – have been shortlisted for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for February 2023 Is.

Australian all-rounder Gardner reached the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings for South Africa. Scoring 110 runs and taking ten wickets throughout the tournament, his key contributions included playing a key role in the thrilling semi-final victory over India, scoring a crucial 31 (18 balls) and taking two wickets in the match, one of which was the team’s prized scalp. Selected for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month on five occasions, she is yet to seal her maiden award win but looks well placed to break that run after a stellar February.

South Africa enjoyed a historic victory in the Women’s T20 World Cup final, largely thanks to Wolvaardt’s brilliance at the top of the order. In the latter stages of the event the 23-year-old most mesmerized in wins against Bangladesh (66 not out), England (53) and Australia (61) in the final.

Successive scores ensured that Wolvaardt finished the tournament as the leading run-scorer with 230 runs, capping off a memorable campaign for him and his Proteas teammates.
