IAS officer in Bihar files police complaint against Chief Minister, top officials

Police declined to confirm whether Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was named in the complaint.

Patna:

A disgruntled IAS officer on Saturday demanded registration of a case against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and several top officials of the state.

Sudhir Kumar, a 1987 batch IAS officer, reached the Gardanibagh police station around noon and was reportedly asked to wait for four hours before he was given a receipt for his written complaint.

The bureaucrat, a member of the state revenue board, said, “The matter is related to forgery. The people named in the complaint are people from top to bottom. I will not name anyone.”

However, when asked repeatedly whether the Chief Minister has been named in the matter, he categorically replied “yes”.

Another officer, whose name he mentioned in the complaint, was former Patna SSP IPS officer Manu Maharaj, who has since been promoted to the rank of DIG and is currently posted elsewhere.

The IAS officer, who retired early next year after being named in a job recruitment scam, had spent three years in jail until the Supreme Court granted him bail in October last year.

He declined to give details of his complaint, saying “it pertains to fraud and forgery of documents” and when asked how many people were named by him, he said, “I don’t count”.

He said: “Look at the rule of law situation in Bihar where an IAS officer is kept waiting for four hours. No FIR has been registered. I have just been handed over the receipt of my complaint. The same thing happened then. When I went to Shastri Nagar police station in March with the same documents.”

“My efforts to gather information about the progress in respect of the previous complaint, which also included an RTI, were to no avail,” he said.

Gardanibagh SHO Arun Kumar said: “Complaint has been received and a receipt has been given to sir (IAS officer). All necessary legal action will be followed”.

However, he declined to confirm that the chief minister was named in the complaint, saying “it is a matter of investigation. We cannot disclose the material”.

Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav demanded a thorough probe into the allegations leveled by the IAS officer, for which he also demanded adequate security.

The RJD leader said, “The chief minister should come clean on the issue. Till he has nothing to hide, he should not hesitate to get the matter thoroughly probed.”

“Nitish Kumar used to scold me for not coming out with an explanation. Now it is his turn”, said Yadav, referring to his name appearing in a money laundering case four years ago, when he was deputy chief minister. . , due to which his boss broke ties with the RJD and joined the BJP-led NDA.
